This Casa Platanillo is a gorgeous property that feels very remote and private yet it is only 4 minutes from the paved road, 20 minutes to the beach of Dominical and 45 minutes to San Isidro. There are no other buildings within its view, only wilderness and beautiful mountains. Chirripo, Costa Rica’s biggest mountain, is the frontal view.
This property is located close to the junction of the San Juan de Dios road and the much smaller Canya Blanca road. This road is peaceful and quiet and a pleasure to walk, with beautiful views on either side. It winds down to where it meets a small, charming river. The walk to the river and back takes about 45 to 60 minutes. The fresh breeze which is always blowing keeps this location at about 5 degrees cooler than the coastal temperature, yet never cool enough to require a sweater.
The house was built with low maintenance in mind. It is mostly concrete, with very beautiful treated wood throughout and charming ceramic floors inside and out. The construction was done in a manner that is tremor-resistant, minimizes mould and mildew and is not attractive to termites and ants. The house was also designed to handle even the heaviest of rainfalls which is ideal for the rainy season. Photos of the entire building process from start to finish are available.
Although this property is in a low crime area, it was designed to be very secure. It has security bars on all the doors and windows. It has a large bodega, which has extra reinforced concrete walls and ceiling and a metal, double deadbolt door. This room also contains a de-humidifier. The house has also been equipped with a security alarm system with siren and connection to a neighbor’s phone.
Even though there is a freshwater spring within the property that is wet all year round, the house is on municipal water (AYA).
A land-line telephone has been installed, allowing for high-speed internet. Wifi has been installed.
